Metal Powders for addition to resins to simulate metal effects in plastic. We offer Brass, Copper, Iron, Aluminium & Bronze. Aluminium is a much finer powder. We can acquire Nickel on request, we do not stock it as it degrades and oxidises to fast. However it makes a brilliant almost chrome like effect if added in sufficient quantity.
We usually recommend a pigment in the resin, black contrasts extremely well, and add powder at 100% by weight. The mixture should be slush or swill cast in a mould then backfilled with a mix of resin and marble sugar for weighting.
Once demoulded, the effect is revealed easily with the use of 00 Grade Wire Wool and lots of rubbing! As the plastic erodes the metal powder comes to the face it begins to polish up. Finish the polishing with a little metal polish. The metal powder will patina and oxidise with age, copper will Verdigris if exposed to acid atmosphere. Bronze darkens, brass dulls, but they can be polished back up.
It is worth noting that a true polished metal finish is NOT possible, but it's quite close!
