Unsaturated Polyester Resin is probably by far the most popular resin in use today for wetting out of glass fibre reinforcement. Polyesters are quite low cost compared to Vinyl Esters and Epoxies but will not wet out Kevlar or Carbon Fibre very well. However they rapid wet out glass fibre reinforcements.
We stock two main types of Polyester Resin, a general purpose and a low exotherm for casting with. The GP Resin has excellent anti-drainage properties and can be enhanced by use of filler powders to assist with cure speed and shrink control. The casting resin is designed to be lower viscosity, presents itself in an unfilled state (allowing the user to decide upon which filler to use) and is an excellent figurine resin.
If you are new to polyester resins, then the casting resin, with its slower cure and longer potlife, allows the novice more time to layup. However the resin will need to be modified with Cab O Sil Fumed Silica in order to increase viscosity and avoid drainage on verticals.
We stock a limited range of pigments for our polyesters, please contact us for more details on these colours or visit the pigments section to see whats available off the shelf. If the colour you want isnt listed, contact us with a RAL or BS number to match to. Please select your item from the list below.
