Vermiculite V1 & V3 is a natural mineral mined from volcanoes and other mines, which expands through exposure to heat, a process known as exfoliation. It has many uses not only confined to the moulding and casting market. We sell it primarily as a filler for plasters and resins due to its bulking and lightening properties.

We stock two different grades of Vermiculite. V1 Superfine and V3 Coarse. V1 makes a good filler for plaster where effects are being developed, for example by striking the face of set plaster, this exposes the vermiculite and gives a rougher, stone like finish.

V3 is a much bigger particle size, which lends itself to lightening the casts and is frequently used in GRG work. Vermiculite also adds some fire proofing reducing flame spread. We said that Vermiculite wasn't only used in our markets. Its also used in Horticulture as a soli conditioner and in livestock farming as a food filler.
