British Gypsums' entry level casting plaster, Fine Casting Plus. A basic plaster that's not too hard, can be carved, sanded and shaped with ease. A great choice for making a former by carving, use our serrated picking tools to help. Can be post moulded with Latex, RTV Silicone Rubber or Vinamold.

The new Fine Casting Plus Casting Plaster was released by British Gypsum some time ago. The new Fine Casting is less chalky, easier to mix and its set time is very much more regulated at 18-22 minutes. As this plaster ages it will speed up on set, but has a shelf life of 6 months from purchase. You can always retard older plaster with our Retarder Systems for Gypsum Plaster.

Mixing Guide:
MIXING RATIO: 100:70 VCat Setting Time: 18-22 minutes Which translates as 100g plaster 70g water. Since 100cc or ml of water = 100g, one can assume 100g plaster to 70cc water. To approximate the requirement for the mould, fill the mould with water and empty into a mixing container, ideally graduated. Divide the total volume by 70 and multiply by one hundred for the correct weight of plaster. Sprinkle or seive the plaster into the water and allow to abosorb water fully before stirring Do not whisk, you will entrain air and cause bubbles! You can also estimate the amount of plaster needed by sprinkling plaster onto the measured water and continue to do so until the plaster level reaches the water level in the container. You will see a sub surface lunar landscape like picture. Our friends at hirstarts.com also have a pictorial mixing guide for this Heath Robinson method
