Degussa Curox M302 Medium Activity MEKP Hardener. Designed to be used with Polyester resins and gelcoats to harden the product. As a medium activity hardener this is our most popular catalyst for GRP and can be added at 1-4% by weight (10-40g per kilo) or 8-36 ml per kilo. Do not attempt to weigh out your resin volumetrically as this will reduce your overall catalyst addition ratio since the Specific Gravity of polyesters is less than one, a litre will weigh over a kilo.

If you really need to use volumetric measuring, you should opt for somewhere between 2 and 3 percent, that way you should never over catalyse your resin causing laminate softening or excess exotherm leading to thermal shear and cracking.

NOTE: We will NEVER supply only MEKP to any individual unless you have purchased products previously that require MEKP to cure or are purchasing additional MEKP for your kit. Excessive over ordering of MEKP will result in your sale being held until we can verify your identity and useage requirement.

Mixing Guide:
GRP Fibre Glass Polyester Casting Resin or Polyester Gelcoat 1. Weigh out the desired volume of resin or gelcoat into a suitable container 2. Calculate the catalyst required at a ratio of 1.5-3% by weight 15g to 30g per kilo 3. If preferred add catalyst by volume at 13-26ml per 1000g 4. Stir very well, trying not to entrap any air and ensuring you get right to the edges and bottom 5. To be sure of full catalysation, tip from one pot to another after first mix and re-mix 6. Allow to stand for a few moments for air release (casting resin only) 7. Tip into the mould or paint onto the surface 8. Allow to cure (see the data sheet 6060_TECH.pdf (resin) or neo2000_TECH.pdf (gel) for cure times) 9. Cure times will vary on catalyst added and ambient temperatures. In cold climate add extra catalyst to a max. of 4% --Ensure your mould is free of water or dampness before casting- this will inhibit cure in top layers --Try not to cast in freezing cold or overly damp conditions --Ensure you resin is fully mixed, if it is not you will get pockets of uncured resin --Be as accurate as possible with weighing catalyst and resin - buy digital scales 1g increment for larger volumes, 0.1g increments for less --Ensure you are adding the right amount of catalyst. Add more if your mould is dry and resin is fully mixed yet still tacky on demould --In cold conditions you will need more catalyst. If you get yellowing or cracking that is too much catalyst! --Wipe uncured surfaces with acetone and buff with a wax to save the piece, though this is not guaranteed to save it! --If your resin is colder than 23 celsius and the ambient temperature is cold then the cure time will substantially increase.
