Polyester Water Clear Casting Resin Kit. A cheaper alternative to Polyurethane systems however much slower curing. This product must NEVER be used in a latex mould, it will not cure in the top 1mm and leave a sticky, hard to clean up mess! It is only suitable for sections in excess of 5mm but no more than 100-150mm. Using this in thinner section will potentially prevent cure, in thicker section will overheat and discolour or even crack. Ideal for larger jewelery items or scientific encapsulations.
The datasheet suggests a potlife of 19-23 minutes at room temperature but does not confirm full cure times. From our experience it can take 24 hours or longer for this product to cure. Filler powders of any type should be avoided as this may inhibit the cure and will of course make the clear resin opaque.
Kits available from 0.5kg to 25kg and sufficient catalyst is supplied for the job to add at 3%. Additional catalyst is available from the shop.

Polyester Resins are cured with MEKP, a corrosive peroxide. It is added at 0.75% to 4% by weight. We do not recommend under 1% as any error in weighing may mean the product fails to cure. Adding more MEKP will reduce the working time (POT or POTLIFE) and mean the resin reaches peak exotherm faster. It will not make the system exotherm any more than with a lower dose, it simply gets to its cross linking temperature faster. It is a myth that adding less MEKP affects the maxium exotherm temperature! Weigh out the desired volume of resin Calculate the required catalyst (1-4% by weight) Add the catalyst and stir well ensuring you combine the whole mix Stand briefly to degass If using degassing equipment bear in mind the vapour pressure of the product. Excess drawn vacuum will boil the product Pour and allow to cure To prevent tacky finishes use only in silicone moulds and exclude air with use of a waxed sheet of glass or cling film Exposure to air during cure will cause a tacky finish on the exposed parts
