Thixotropic for RTV Silicone Rubber. When you need to change the flow properties of the base rubber to take a mould from a positive on the bench as a skin mould or indeed take an impression of something in situ, you will need a Thixo to make the rubber into a non slumping slurry like paste. Used at approximately 2% by weight to the total weight of the silicone mix. Produces a warm butter like product.
Once thickened and catalysed and appplied to the model, the silicone will set as normal as a blanket over the work, not running away like if you had used pure base. A supportive jacket is then used to support the thin skin before demoulding and use of the mould.
When using thixo, the thixo should be added after catalysation, except when using very fast systems where it should be mixed first.
When using our thixo with addition cure rubbers such as the addition cure viscolo or rapi systems, always mix the system first. Failure to do so may result in a poor mix and cure problems.
We now supply a single thixo for all systems. Whichever option you pick makes no difference in what is supplied nor the price.
